TUESDAY, 9 th OCTOBER 2007

THE SOUTH EAST CORNER
caught in the
BLUE TONGUE & PROTECTION ZONE
& FOOT & MOUTH RISK AREA

Livestock Markets resume elsewhere
Licences and movement controls in our area
complicate both store and primestock trading

FOOT & MOUTH & BLUE TONGUE UPDATE
SEM are making every effort to trade both fat
and store stock on farmers behalf - placing stock where it will maximise your returns.

At the time of going to post:-
No Livestock Movements of any kind are allowable outside of the Blue Tongue Protection Zone
which takes in Kent, East Sussex and part of West Sussex and the most of Surrey.

All of West Sussex and Surrey still remain a Foot & Mouth Disease risk area.
Kent & East Sussex are now Low Risk but markets of any kind are prevented by Blue Tongue controls - Livestock markets are operating under strict
Defra regulations in other parts of the country.
We await decision from Defra to ease controls to help the tremendous problems of welfare, cash flow, breeding etc. that the livestock farmer is facing - we need to trade on a level playing field
with the rest of the country.

Meanwhile:-

Hailsham Collection Centre continues,
albeit limited to sending stock within the Blue Tongue Protection Zone.
Finished cattle prices continue at recent rates
Finished sheep price at a very low ebb
Keep in touch - we will help all we can
