SHEEP (468) Auctioneer: Nick Young Start 11.15 prompt
LAMBS (254) Overall average 140.2p per kilo
The summer heatwave resulted in everyone going haying and a short entry resulted, nothing like enough for the level of demand. Although nationally trade was back Hailsham fared much better than the national. As usual the faithful were well rewarded and the results speak for themselves. Many many more lambs wanted. Getting them drawn correctly is paramount to achieving the right price. Please let us know what you have.

NYMANS FARM, HenfieldThursday, 25th June 2009
Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Nuthurst Pedigree Guernseys to 1100 gns
Nuthurst Serena - a Myown Shot Blastoff bred cow on her second note having given 6,080 kilos as a heifer and now April calved and producing 28 kilos daily achieved the top price at the Nuthurst herd dispersal last Thursday - 1,100 gns and joining the Kenprest herd at Dereham in Norfolk. Nuthurst Guernseys first originated back in the 1930 and have been milked at Nymans Farm for seventy plus years. Original foundation cows Trunkwell Gleam and Hartwell Princess could still have their genetics traced back in the herd today.
Indeed it is fitting that the top price bulling heifer was the last of the Princess family - Nuthurst Princess 610th selling at 800 gns at eighteen months.
The Serena family was also keenly sought after with the unserved heifer - Nuthurst Serena 3rd also being taken by Mr. Prestidge to join his Kenprest herd at Dereham for 500 gns at six months old.
Sale figures/averages for:-
Cows in 2nd/4th lactation and calving September to 900 gns and average £848.92
Cows in 1st/2nd lactation and calving October to November to 800 gns and average £612.93
Served heifers calving late autumn to 640 gns
Cows in their 3rd/5th lactation and freshly calved in April to June to 800 gns and average £745.50
Older cows springing to calve to Simmental bull to 770 gns
A sad day to see another Channel Island herd dispersal in the South East of England - a long standing herd that won the supreme Guernsey Championship at the Royal Show in the 1980’s -
nothing is forever.
