CATTLE (28) Auctioneer: Roger Waters

Sharp start to the New Year but very few quality Continentals on offer. Dick Bradford on behalf of St. Georges Retreat had double top with their medium weight Limousin cross steer a creditable 126p (more to come!) and a Charolais cross heifer at 109p and nearly grossing £700. Better bred Continental steers changing hands at £1/£1.04, some heifers coming plenty fat enough. Keep them coming and please let us know what you have for next week.

Token post Christmas entry, some improvement 33p to 64p thats the range. CS Hall’s young lightweight Limousin cross cow 64p, best of the black and whites - steaking Friesians 54p, Purebred Sussex 60p and Plainer cows 33p, 35p etc.

CALVES (18)Auctioneer: Roger Waters Sale commences 10.45 a.m
Mostly native bred calves on offer all well received but looking good value to farm on. Keith Vicary’s Limousin cross bull £117 and heifer £82. Pitts & Son’s Angus cross £92, Hereford cross bull £70 and heifers £60.

No pigs on offer. Next week two sows - Large white and GOS, six GOS cross weaners and six cutter weight finished pigs.

LAMBS (251)Overall average 85.2p per kg.
There is no doubt trade for meated lambs has improved marginally, this is good news as undoubtedly they will get dearer. However undermeated sheep are best sold in the the store section. As trade improves and undoubtedly it will confidence will grow. Hailsham it must be said is still as dear as anywhere. Will Higgs superb run proves the point.
