LAMBS (710) Overall average 132.7p per kilo
The national was well back - Hailsham’s top producers faired exceedingly well, the national considered. However there is no place for an undermeated lamb in the finished section. It is meat that is wanted, as the following returns clearly indicate.
Leading prices per kg:- LJ Poland 156.7p, DR & TA Gorringe 153.5p, 142.3p, SMJ Baldock 148.4p, CM Wettern 143.7p, Mrs S Roberts 141.7p, J Shippam 141.7p, JA Nightingale 141.6p, A Jarrett 141.5p, FG Coles 140.6p, J Field 140.1p, R Ponsford 139p, NJ & PC Clouting 138.6p, 137.7p Leading prices per head:- JE Lamplugh £71.50, £64.50, DR & TA Gorringe £68, GN & J West £66.50, £65.50 (twice), CA Lee & Sons £65.50, FG Coles £65.50 £62, IH & FC Field £64.50, £62.50, Mrs S Roberts £64, £62.50, JA Nightingale £63, AJ & GM Gingell £62.50, CM Wettern £62.50
EWES (212)

Fair numbers but definitely quality was lacking. None the less it’s the same story - whatever the quality they really are wanted this and every week at Hailsham.
E Gingell £73, £70, G Isden £71.50, Bungehurst Farm Ltd., £69.50, JD Goodman £67.
STORE SHEEP (443)
The highlight of the week - again a tremendous entry.
Depending on your prospective
a) sell now because they are dearer than the finished lambs - or
b) buy as many as you can as the price is sure to rise like last year.
Our advice is do both!!!
Many more store lambs wanted to satisfy the insatiable demand.
Please let us know what you have.
G Littlechild £53.20, £47, N Reader £52.50, W Higgs £52.50 (twice) £51 (twice), D Powell £51, £50.50, £48, R Gorringe £50.50 (twice), P Appleby £50, PJ Greenaway £48, LM Morgan £47.80, LJ Poland £47.50.

HAILSHAM FARMERS'
PRODUCE & CRAFT MARKET
On SATURDAY, 12th SEPTEMBER
Held On Second Saturday In Every Month
9 ~ 12.30 At Hailsham Cattle Market

At our next Farmers' Market we will be welcoming back several stallholders who were either on holiday through the summer or their produce is purely seasonal, as well as our usual producers of fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, free range eggs, organic mikl, fresh fish, cakes, etc. At our Information Stand we will be giving out leaflets on behalf of the Friends of East Sussex Hospices promoting “The Extremely Enormous East Sussex Supper”, a fund-raising event covering the nine hospices serving the people of East Sussex. Whether you are a producer or a member of the public come along and see how you can help this very worthy cause. If you are interested in joining us on a regular basis please contact the Organiser Janet Dann Tel. 01323 833359 or email: janet@highlea.demon.co.uk.
