SHEEP (1274) Auctioneer: Nick Young
LAMBS (28) Overall average 181.5p per kilo
A very ready trade, notwithstanding the fact that they were in front of the Easter flush. We suspect they are bound for the dinner tables of fine restaurants in London and Eastbourne.
HOGGETS (758) Overall average 173.6p per kilo
A rock solid trade. Remember the finished price achieved depends upon the killing out percentages and the dressed carcass weight, therefore, it is the best finished sheep which really ring the bell. If proof were needed look at the roll of honour below:-

HAILSHAM FARMERS' PRODUCE & CRAFT MARKET
On SATURDAY, 13th FEBRUARY
Held On Second Saturday In Every Month
9.00 ~ 12.30 At Hailsham Cattle Market
First of all, I would like to thank all those customers and stallholders for bravely turning out in the snow for our January Market. The conditions were very cold and slippery, and for this reason the stalls were erected under cover in the Calf Pens, and although the conditions were freezing at least everyone was in the dry. With no Cafe due to a burst water main one of our stallholders, Maggi Pratt, brought along a camping stove, bread and bacon and was soon the most popular person in town frying up large amounts of bacon butties which went down a treat - thank you, and well done Maggi!
Our next market is on Saturday 13th February when we will be holding a Valentine’s Card Competition with three age groups, 0 to 5, 6 to 12 and 13 to adult, with Boots tokens as prizes. Just bring your cards along on the day with your name and age on the back, and we will contact the winners by telephone. Hopefully we will get lots of entries - make use of these cold Winter days to design a wonderful gift for a loved-one! Although we are still in the grips of Winter we will have a good selection of producers, from fresh and frozen meat to home-made pies, free range eggs and a wide variety of plants, to name a few. We are always looking for more stallholders, particularly cakes, bread and cheese.
For more information, or to book a stall please contact
Janet Dann the Organiser Tel. 01323 833359 or email: janet@highlea.demon.co.uk.
