CATTLE (31 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters Rock solid trade for an entry short on quality. Sussex bred and Sussex fed cattle - this weeks high spot to Julian Mockford’s medium weight Sussex steer a rewarding 126p, Not far behind Roger Milman’s Limousin cross steer at 124.5p. Best of the heifer prices - Julian Mockford again Limousin cross 119.5p. Dairy bred beef from the McCubbine family to the fore with Belgian Blue cross heifers 119p, 118p, 116p, etc. Holstein steers 103.5p. CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (29) No let up in the trade. The cows get better, the trade gets better. Best Friesian Holsteins 97p & 96p per kilo. Lean steaking Friesians 70p/80.5p. Plain cows to 68.5p. Good heavy Continental crosses to 96.5p and gross £834. Keep them coming the bigger the better. Overage beef moving onwards and upwards - Julian Mockford top again with his Limousin cross heifer 109.5p. Jim & Nick Geering’s Limousin cross heifer 105p. Hugh Allen’s Angus cross heifer 104p. Plain heavyweight Holstein steers 90p. Top price per head to Chris Williams’ Angus cross £5 short of £900. Show next week if you have a good cow why not bring her and collect some prize money. CALVES (60 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters Biggest calf entry so far this year - 60 penned and sold from £2 to £222. Brian Ashby sells both! Simmental x Friesian bull 7 weeks £222! and Holstein bull, 3 weeks £2! Quite a range of qualities and breeds. Simmental cross bull £222, £210 & £175. SHEEP (1616) - Auctioneer: Nick Young HOGGETS (703)Overall average 122.2p per kg. Still on top !! There’s no doubt about it Hailsham is the place to sell your sheep - well over 1600 penned and sold. Another good go and thats a fact. How long can it last - however we are not complaining . Remember they must be meat to get the best returns, we need meated lambs every week. EWES (184) Hailsham remains the top price ewe destination in the South East, how we wish we had more, in particular big runs. Fierce competition from first to last.
