CATTLE (24) Auctioneer:Roger Waters
Finished cattle remain short - everybody looking for better returns and a reverse in the present trend. Mrs Cook’s barley fed Simmental cross heavyweights are top price per kilo 143p and a top of £1,108 per head. Regular Ronnie Kemp has medium weight Limousin cross heifers to 140p. Some cattle still not Farm Assured - for further guidance phone FABBL on 01908231642.

COWS & OVERAGE BEEF (27) Auctioneer:Roger Waters
Trade easing back in sympathy with finished stock, no first grade culls on offer. Lean heavyweight Holstein steaking cows 96p, 90p, 86.6p, 81.5p, plain boners to 66p. Overfat Limousin cross cows to 97p, other medium weight Continental crosses 90p and 87.5p. Longhorns for further feeding 87p. CALVES (15) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Very few but selling well. Clearwater Farms’ Blonde cross heifer an excellent £250, reared Simmental cross steer £274 and Limousin cross £274 at 10/12 weeks. Hereford x Friesian steers £205 and heifers £175.

PIGS (19) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Eight pens of pigs all keenly competed for. British Lop cross gilts, 12/14 weeks £38 and entires £37. Coloured cross bred gilts £30 and entires £29, GOS runners £24 and GOS sow £116 Entered for next week, Wednesday, 14th July - 10 weaners.

SHEEP (687) Auctioneer: Nick Young

LAMBS (393) Overall average 140.8p per kilo
Summertime and the living is hard, still no rain in the South East. The pound has strengthened and then weakened against the Euro and demand is minimal across the country. It was only the best of the very best that were wanted today and in particular “storified” lambs are best properly finished to achieve their economic potential. FG Coles breeding and feeding paying dividends yet again. All in all a very hard days trading but considerably better than many Tuesday markets.
Leading prices per kg:- P G Poole 166.7p, FG Coles 160p, 150.7p, AA & M Woolgar 158.8p, 146.8p, CM Wettern 148.8p, 144.9p, SMJ Baldock 148.7p, 144p, Mrs H Raw 146.7p, DJC Gosling 145p, FS Major & Sons 145p, GN & J West 144.2p, 142.4p, I Williams 144.1p, DW Reed 143.2p,
Leading prices per head:- P G Poole £82.00, CM Wettern £70, £68, FG Coles £68, £67.50, Mrs H Raw £65.50, AA & M Woolgar £63.50, GN & J West £62.50 (thrice), £62, £61.50, G Harvey £61.50

EWES (121)
Still no let up in this trade with all ewes keenly contested by the big factory men. Very lean sorts look value to keep until September when Ramadan finishes provided you have the grass.
J R McCutchan £83, £74, £70, R Gorringe £83, G Harvey £75, £65, SMJ Baldock £70, CM Wettern £69, HG Allen & Son £68, JJ Seller & Partners £66, GN & J West £65

STORE SHEEP (173)
Considering where the fat lamb prices are all stores remain a good trade with the majority making north of the £50 mark.
The question is sell now or feed on ? The answer is do both !!!!
Liverton Partners £54, £45 (twice) Hollycombe Farms Ltd £53, KP Bull £50, D Powell £48 (twice), £44, Miss J Longley £40

SHEEP TAGS - EID
Please note that any sheep born and/or identified in 2010 should be tagged and identified with tags compliant with the new EU 21/2005 sheep EID regulation rules.
EID tags are more favourable but last year’s tags are not acceptable.

HAILSHAM FARMERS' PRODUCE & CRAFT MARKET
THIS SATURDAY, 10th JULY
Held On Second Saturday In Every Month
9.00 ~ 12.30 At Hailsham Cattle Market
Our Mid-summer market will be showcasing seasonal fruit and vegetables and a wide variety of meat such as pork chops, sausages, bacon, beef, lamb, chicken and a good choice of game meat, for cooking either in the kitchen or on the barbeque. We will also be promoting plenty of fresh, local produce such as cakes and pies, free range eggs, honey and wax products, delicious Organic milk straight from the cows, locally caught fish, a good selection of Sussex cheeses, annual and perennial plants, along with several of our Craft stallholders offering a variety of gifts and cards. Farmers’ Markets give you the chance to talk to the stallholders who actually produce, bake or make their products, giving you the opportunity to find out more about their production methods from start to finish. They give freely of their expertise, time and knowledge, and you will also find their prices compete favourably with the supermarkets. Our Information Stand offers a range of leaflets on local events, produce and recipes, together with the very popular Farm Stay brochures promoting affordable holidays on farms throughout Great Britain.
