An entry of mostly dairy bred beef stock or non FABBL’ed cattle fractionally easier on the week. St. Georges quality stock shines through at 158p for their Limousin cross heifer, just not enough of them. FS Major & Sons’ have homebred Limousin x Friesian steers and heifers to 140p and Mr. Farley’s Sussex suckler bred steers sell to 141p.

In common with other centres an easing of the cull cow demand. Bob and Mike Sherwood’s Limousin to 112 and 109p, Norman Hick’s good fleshed Angus cross £94, £93, £89. Best of the Friesians 90p, plain Friesian Holsteins 59p. Two plain cull bulls - Aberdeen Angus 83p, Simmental 75p. Just a few overage beef - medium weight finished Simmental cross steer to 132p and Limousin x Friesian 127p.

CALVES (22)

Another flyer of a trade for the beef cross calves. Young Belgian Blue bull £165 twice, Aberdeen Angus cross heifer £145 twice, £140, £130 and bulls £127, £120, Hereford cross heifer £97. Top three black and white bulls £48, £47, £24.

A colourful pig entry of mostly Saddlebacks and Berkshires. Well grown Saddleback weaners to £30 each, others at £29 and £21. Pork weight Saddleback gilts look good value at 64p per kilo. Maiden gilt to £62.50, Berkshire gilts to £60, Heavyweight white sows to £170. Next Wednesday - Entered 7 Saddleback gilts been running with Large White boar and 8 Large White x Saddleback weaners and 2 Berkshire weaners.

Tib always had a good eye for a good pen of store bullocks and was a real friend to all those who had the privilege of knowing him both at Haywards Heath and Hailsham. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 13th October at Blackham Church
