CATTLE (35 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters

Very much a stand on trade, all finished suckler bred Continental cross from 129p to a top of 144p for Graham Beck’s homebred Limousin cross heifer and he has others at 140.5p and 138p. Very much a ladies day - Limousin cross heifers from John & Mary Jones and Brian Foster 141p & 135p respectively. Very few suckler bred steers on offer. Friesian Holstein steers, all shapes, all finishes 113p the best, 97.5p the worst. Keep them coming and thank you to those that continue to support the auction system at Hailsham.

Only ten - desperate numbers but outstanding trade. Neil Smith has an outstanding Simmental cross heifer with age at 128p! (£870). Best Friesian Holstein 95p and 103p, steakers 85p and 89p and plain Holsteins 76p. Top call Julian Mockford’s Limousin cross cow 107.5p. Cows or overage beef to sell then join the entry next week.

CALVES (40 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Forty calves forward, forty sold, two good quality Angus cross bulls from FJ Butler & Son both equal top price at £142 and heifers to £60. Best of the rest - Blonde cross bulls £97 and heifers £81, Hereford cross bulls £106 and heifers £52, Friesian Holstein bulls, 4/5 weeks £15 - £27 each.

In pig sows as advertised live up to expectation from £95 to £117 and average £105. One cull cow looked excellent value at £50!

Off the boil by comparison to last week. It is still the best meat that is wanted, undermeated sheep in the finished section are no good to anyone. The answer is to feed them or sell them as stores.
