CATTLE (33) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Mostly beef from the dairy herd with only a few suckler bred cattle forward. Derek Southouse leads the way with his homebred steer 150.5p and Lance Geering for Friday Street Farmers has homebred Limousin cross heifers at 142.5p. Pitchfont Farms lightweight Sussex steer to 133p and Tom Rea has Simmental cross heifers to 137p. Seasonal weather on its way will perhaps sharpen the demand.

Cull cows and overage beef forward in greater numbers, no improvement in demand with only just a few of the best Continental cross cows able to command bids of 90p plus. Top calls - Mrs A Mills & Son’s Limousin-x 95p, Mrs Jane Andrew’s Charolais 94p twice, M Muggeridge’s Limousin-x 91.5p, BJ Hicks’ heavyweight Charolais-x grossing £858. Native bred cows - Martin Muggeridge’s Hereford-x 88.5p, Mrs PA Greenwood’s Angus 88p, J Monnington Farms’ Hereford-x 88p. Best of Friesian Holstein 85p, medium steaking Friesian 62/75p, plain Friesian Holstein 40/55p. Well fleshed Guernseys to 78p per kg. Young feeding cows to 82p per kg. Demand remains very good for the best beef cross calves but Friesian cross and Holstein cross more difficult to place.
