A good post-show entry of finished cattle with the pre-Christmas trade holding its own. Derek Southouse again out with a very smart Limousin heifer selling at 160p. Best of the steers to Jim and Nick Geering’s homebred Continental at 142.5p. All better bred
steers and heifers changing hands in the 138p/145p price range. Keep them coming.

CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (34)
The heavyweight brigade out in force. Deerhyde Ltd’s Simmental cross steers 1150 and 1100 kgs, Chris Williams’ Angus cross steers and heifers 955 kg., 905 kg. and 890 kg., Robbie Dick’s Hereford bull 1035 kg., Chris Rea’s Hereford cross cow 880 kg. St. Georges Retreat’s Hereford x Friesian cow 840 kg., Paul Rossi’s Friesian Holstein 780 kg. The very heavy steers and heifers 88p over fat to 113.5p, mostly 105p/113.5p, bulls to 80p, Simmental and Hereford cross cows 98/99p, Friesian Holstein 98p, Plain cows 45/65p, many sold very full. Medium steakers 72p, Simmental cross steers and heifers for further feeding 113/115p.

CALVES (14) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Only a few but all selling very well. Nick Adames’ Simmental-x bull £150, £143, £140 & heifers £102, Clearwater’s Blonde-x bull £135 and heifer £130, reared Angus-x, 10/12 week steers £267. Best of the Holsteins £20.

Lightweight porkers and cutters all colours, best white hybrid gilts 86p.
Three sows to £150 per head and 57p per kilo.

LAMBS (406) Overall average 121.7p per kg.
Yet another bumper entry. Over 1240 penned and sold. Hailsham was going great guns today. Undoubtedly there is a rattling good trade for the best meated sheep. There are real rewards at Hailsham if you feed and draw your sheep properly. The “Framfield” connection - Messrs Woolgar and Coles got it right.
