Firm, firm trade, Hailsham highlights W Ware & Son’s, Portsmouth, Limousin x Sussex 18 months 146p and grosses £846.80 and also has lightweight heifers at 118p. Liverton Partners’ Charolais x Friesian steer 105p, Mrs Greenwood’s barley bulls - Aberdeen Angus 100.5p and Holsteins to 88.5p. Encouraging demand.

CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (21)

Talk of demand slipping but definitely not at Hailsham - good cows forward. All well fleshed black and white cows 65/77p range, top five Friesian Holsteins 77p, 75p, 72p, 69.5p, & 68p. Beef cows as good - Angus cross 84.5p, 80p, Sussex 80p & 71p. Mrs Greenwood has Guernseys to 63.5p (£450 per head). No b & w cows less than 57.5p, Overage beef - C Broucke’s Friesian Holstein steers 86.5p, 84.5p twice.

CALVES (27)

Not enough for the potential customer base - a good trade. Ridgewood Farm’s Belgian Blue bull £180, Mayes Farms’ Belgian Blue cross heifer £148, K. Vicary’s Limousin cross bull part reared £154, Limousin cross heifer £125. Best of the black and white bulls £20, reared Hereford cross £20.

PIGS (--)

Pigs nearly fly, excellent trade, three pens GOS weaners, 10 weeks £38.50, £35, £26. Landcross weaners £38 each. GOS bacon weight 84p and £90 plus per head. Heavy Landrace cutter 96p per kilo and £96 per head.
