Snowed in yet again but Hailsham survives another white Wednesday

CATTLE (20) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Heavy snow showers at daybreak disrupts smooth marketing for the second week running - 30 cattle manage to reach the main roads and Hailsham Market.
Trade remains very firm. John & Mary Jones start the year at the top of the tree,
165p for their Limousin suckler heifer. Jim and Nick Geering make it off the high weald to be rewarded with 161p for their heavyweight Limousin cross steer. John Ayres’ West Sussex consignment of Limousin x Friesian £1,000 plus for steers and £1,000 minus for heifers. Cattle hopefully more plentiful next week, Please keep in touch.

Signs of improvement, more could have been sold to advantage.
Lean Belgian Blue cross cows 94p, Charolais cross feeding cows 89p, Heavyweight Friesian steaking cows 94p and £700 plus.
Overage Limousin x Holstein heifers 126.5p Keep them coming.

A penful of calves all trading well at very good prices. British Blue cross the flavour of the day. Paul Rossi’s British Blue cross bull to £222 and heifers to £220.
TJ & JJ Binnington’s British Blue cross bull to £217 and reared Friesian Holstein bulls £69, £69 and £52.

Heavy and medium weight GOS x Tamworth cutters from Mr. JL Simpson look good value selling to 85p per kilo. A real variety of pigs entered for next week and hopefully no snow to hamper them coming in - Two Large White x Landrace gilts, in-pig to Large White Duroc Boar, due Feb., 4 Saddleback x L/W boars, 16 weeks and 1 Saddleback boar, 6 months. 15 Saddleback weaners, 3 months, 1 Pot bellied pig plus 7 Middle White x Large Black weaners, 12 weeks old

Trade is good but could be better. However with the thaw we believe prices will fall as numbers become available. A fair days trading considering the apalling weather and road conditions. Congratulations to Ed Gingell for getting top price this week of £91.50 per head.

is now incorporated on the back of our Cattle and Cow Movement Form
and will also be part of the new
Revised AML1 Movement Licence for Sheep.
When sending cattle or sheep please ensure the food chain
declaration is filled in correctly, signed and dated
