Numbers improving and trade holding more local butcher interest and some buyers still unable to fulfil their order. Messrs. Blake, Bradford and Harris all share top price of 161p - D N Blake & Partners with Hereford cross, St. Georges Retreat’s - Dick Bradford with Pure Sussex and S Harris with Limousin cross. Flower & Lawrence have heavyweight Continental cross steers at 148.5p and 148p, etc. grossing over £1,000. Still more cattle needed to match buyers requirements.

Still running low in numbers, demand unchanged - Robert Penny’s best Limousin cross cows to 121.5p, others 111.5p, etc. Cull Sussex bull 90p, Friesian Holstein heavyweight steaking cows to 88.5p. Over-age beef only three - Chris Berry’s Belgian Blue cross heifer to 129p and steer to 126p.
CALVES (36) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Calf numbers on the increase and the excellent selling trade continues. Ridgewood Farm have Sussex cross bull to £171, Limousin cross bull to £163 and Belgian Blue cross bull to £172. Clearwater Farms younger Blonde cross bull to £139 and heifer likewise to £139, Skinner & Son’s Hereford x Friesian bull to £165 and heifer to £140. Best of the younger black and whites £42 twice, £40 twice and Ayrshire bulls £24 twice. Reared Friesian stirks to £195.

The real meated lambs were a much warmer order - sadly the undermeated lambs did pull the job back a touch. Nonetheless there is a job for every type of lamb at Hailsham. Predictably the best made the most money.
