FOOT & MOUTH & BLUE TONGUE UPDATE
WEDNESDAY, 17th - AFTERNOON

Hailsham Market up and running and looking to be returning to some degree of normality and free to conduct business as usual in East Sussex. At the time of going to print West Sussex and Surrey continue to be a FMD risk area and we are told this is subject to continual review - hopeful that we will be able to accept your stock from this area very soon - a matter of days. The Bluetongue protection zone continues to move across the country and now extends into Wales & up to Yorkshire - store cattle and sheep can trade freely in this zone with the exception of the FMD surveillance zone in Surrey.

Stock purchased to go into the FMD risk area travels under the general licence and
with a consignment note - regulations are being relaxed and changing daily -
keep in contact with us at Hailsham - we will help if we can.

Primestock report for: Wednesday 17th October 2007

PRIME CATTLE (17) Auctioneer: Roger Waters

Back in business to a blistering trade, everybody enjoying the transparency of the auction system once again. Chris Rea deservedly top shot at 124p for a young Sussex cross suckler bred heifer - medium weight heifers dominated the entry all changing hands between 103p & 124p to average 113p. Best of the steers to David Miles’ Limousin cross at 116.5p. Friesian Holstein steers to 89.5p. Just not enough of them.

LAMBS (168) Overall average 804p per kg.

A shaky but good start, we know that the National trade and levels at which private sales have taken place is economically useless. We feel we did our bit to reverse the trend and particularly so in respect of all ewes and store lambs sales. We need your support now more than ever in these difficult times.
