CATTLE (36 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters

Very good demand, very much a stand on trade, encouraging for all concerned - a wide variation of stock, hence a wide variation of prices. All well finished Continental cross steers and heifers 117p+ to a top of 126.5p for Derek Southouse’s young Limousin cross heifer and Mr & Mrs Hesselgrave have 125p for their young Simmental cross steer. Friesian Holstein steers over £1 to £1.02. Confidence abounds, the trade is keen for stock for immediate slaughter and further finishing.

Flying along, cows and overage beef in short supply, nothing like enough for the buyers present. Some good fleshed cows on offer. Belgian Blue cross £1 twice, Charolais cross 88p, Sussex cross 87.5p, Friesian Holstein 78p. Younger sorts to feed on 77p, plain Holsteins 57p. Best of the overage steers, heavy Simmental x Friesian 94p and Friesians 84p.

CALVES (17 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Buyers abound, just wish we had more calves to offer them. Blonde, Blue and Angus make up most of the entry. Best of the Belgian Blue cross bulls £142 twice and heifers £121 twice. Best of the Blonde cross bulls £143, Top Angus bulls £122 and Friesian type bulls £57 at 8 weeks old.

PIGS (25) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Variety in the pig pens. GOS cross porkers 60p per kilo and £49.50 per head look good value. Sows to £75
per head. Young stores looking well sold at £30 per head and £26 per head. Next week - 7 weaners entered.
