Short entry demand firmer on the week. Geoff Brain’s purebred Limousin steer best of the bunch at 159p. Well bred Continentals with finish changing hands 146/150p price range. Equal to the steers Julian Mockford’s smart Simmental cross heifer takes the eye and the price 159p.  More needed - ten customers around the ring all looking for cattle - short week next week so keep in touch. Will Hextall’s Sussex at 116p, other crossbreds 98/100p.  Only one Friesian Holstein very lean and looks well sold at 89p.

Only two calves - sold readily - Sussex x Friesian heifers £96 and £91.

PIGS (33)
Nearly a row of pigs and customers keen for everything. Norman Hick’s white pork/cutter weight gilts 113p and entires to 89p. Richard Mortimer’s served Saddleback sows to £217 and heavy feeding crossbred gilts £42 each. Empty heavyweight white sows to £192.

LAMBS (185) Overall average 195.1p per kilo
Good show and as usual the best a humdinger of a trade with the faithfull well rewarded. Most butchers now on milk lambs rather than hoggets so getting it right is crucial. It is uncertain how long they can stay at the this level, please keep in touch.

Undoubtedly the representatives from the big factories are at war and the battle ground is Hailsham resulting in an out of this world trade.
