Cattle have been in the yards a long time looking for a lift in returns - not happening this month.  Good bred Continental cross steers and heifers with weight change hands 140/145p.  Mark & John Cornwell’s homebred Limousin cross top call steer at 150p Richard White leads the heifers with homebred lightweight Limousin cross at 148p.  Numbers looking shorter next week.  Please let us know what you have.

All wanted, some very well fleshed heavyweight beef cows on offer - turn the weighbridge needle and make the price!  Mrs D Mellor’s Simmental cross cow £1,065+,
Mrs J Andrew’s Limousin cross 122p, (£969), 
R & J Penny’s Hereford cross (£900), Best of the well fleshed Friesians to HJ Cross & Sons 111.5p (£841+), heavyweight steaking Friesians to 110p.  Not forgetting the Dexter cow at 88p.  Overage beef trade remains firm, more on offer, Continental cross steer 124.5p and heifer 122.5p, traditional breeds to 122p.

Excellent competition once again with potential customers going away empty handed - best call £300 for Charolais crosses six weeks old.  Younger Limousin cross bulls £230, £197 and Blonde cross and Limousin cross heifers £175, £173, £170, £165, etc.  Angus cross heifers £200.  Best of the black and white bulls reared at 16/18 weeks £205.  Selling calves why not try the auction ring - we have the customers

Plenty of variety - white pork weight gilts to 90p per kilo and coloured entires 80p per kilo.  In pig Saddleback sows to £115.  Saddleback sows with litter of eight £177.  British Lop weaner pigs selling well to £33 each.

A disappointing trade, the national was back and so were we.  Good quality meated hoggets are in short supply both at Hailsham and in the UK.  Undoubtedly the price will improve in the weeks to come, provided you have the right fed meated sheep to sell.

New Areas were brought into force in January 2010

Do you know what TB Testing Parish you are in ?

All cattle 42 days old and over (when the date of birth is “day 0”) moving out of a 1 or 2 yearly testedherd must have tested negative to a TB test within 60 days prior to movement unless the movement satisfies any of the exemptions.  Please make sure if you are in a one or two yearly testing parish that your cattle are pre-movement tested before coming into the market.  If you are unsure what area you are in please telephone market or your local Trading Standards Office
