Rewarding to see larger cattle numbers forward and an excellent demand from beginning to end. Keep them coming. Caterina Deroo’s suckler bred Charolais steer nearly 120p and nearly £800. Rupert Taylor’s Charolais cross best of the heifers at 118p. Fabbled suckler bred steers and heifers consistently 108/118p price range. Best of the dairy bred beef – John Gormley’s Limousin x Friesian steer 115.5p,
Mr & Mrs McCubbine’s Belgian Blue x Friesian heifer 112p. Plain Holstein steers 76.5p!

CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (50)
Out in numbers both overage beef and cull cows. Trade firming week by week and demand is good, support the auction system. Charolais cows to 87p per kilo and £713.40 per head, Simmental cross 76p, Sussex 75.5p, Longhorn 74.5p, Blonde cross 69.5p. All good fleshed dry bagged beef cows 70p plus. Best of the dairy bred culls - Hailsham’s top five Friesian Holstein 69p, 67.5p, 65p, 65p & 64.5p. Guernsey 53p, Black and white steakers to 58p. Overage beef - Reg Philpott’s heavyweight Simmental 78.5p to 84p and £721 per head.

CALVES (31) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Better numbers. Continental crossbred trading well. Paul Rossi’s Belgian Blue cross bull £135, £132 etc., Charolais x Friesian bull £140, Keith Vicary’s Limousin cross bull to £120 and heifers to £95. Friesian Holsten bulls difficult to place £3. Reared Friesian stirks 5/6 months £70.

Eight crossbred cutters, difficult to clear, gilts 54p per kilo, entires 50p per kilo and grossing £48.75. Next week four Landrace cutters and one sow. Thirteen Large White x GOS weaner pigs already booked.

A two tier trade, meated lambs around 110p and over - under meated lambs 80/90p. We don’t know the answer but surely on a rising trade it must pay to feed them amd make them meat. Remember quality counts.

Back everywhere. Hailsham was certainly above average for all grades. Best ewes from Kenny Simmons £37 and Jez Wheatland £35, £30. Many thanks to Christopher and Jason for making the trade.
