Better numbers, better quality and continuing better prices,seven cattle 130p plus and ten 125p plus. Brian Foster has the cream of the crop, lightweight Limousin cross heifers 138p and 137.5p and more to come. Jim and Nick Geering’s Belgian Blue cross steer 130p grossing £900+ and best of the steers. John Gormley’s run of beef x Friesian worthy of a special mention - Belgian Blue cross steers 129p, 128p, 125p and Limousin cross heifers 134p twice. Cattle looking well and looking well sold but do not get them too fat. Friesian Holsteins not too fat to 106p. Thank you to all those supporting the live ring, regulars and new vendors too

CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (13)
Short and dear - only 13 but not unlucky for those who sent cattle this week. Best of the cull beef cows - A Wise’s Blonde cross cow 115.5p, best of the dairy culls to RM & J Penny’s Friesians 90p and 89.5p. Overage beef still clocking up very well. WD Smith & Son’s Simmental cross steer 112p. A Wise’s Simmental cross heifer 110p. Nothing like enough for the current demand!
Next Wednesday - Young Sussex bull to be sold at the end of the prime cattle

CALVES (18 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
We have had some good numbers forward in March but not this week, only seven. Small Hereford cross bulls £62 and likewise heifers to £44 and a good Limousin cross heifer £90 (a future beef cow?) Entered Next Week 20 Simmental cross bulls and heifers and Aberdeen Angus bulls.

PIGS (39) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
A row of pigs, all breeds represented - whites and blacks, crossbred gilts, traditionally bred and plenty of colour. Saddleback sows to £87 per head and 48p per kilo, coloured gilts 80/90 kilo weight range, better sorts £48/£62 price range. Heavyweight white feeders £35 per head.

With the strength of trade that exists at Hailsham at present it is imperative that all hoggets are properly finished, presented and sorted, there is no margin for error. Make them meat and keep them coming.

Keenly contested, particularly the better bred sorts. Mrs J Andrews £51.20, £44.20, JD Trunkfield Farms Ltd £46, DG Reading £45.20, AB Flux £44.20, G Tobitt £43.80, £41, Brookhouse Farm £43.50. R Marsh’s 4 ewes with 8 lambs at foot to £89 per head (£29.67 per life).
