Spirited competition with fewer suckler bred beef forward, but all looking well sold. Ronnie Kemp scores double top with his Limousin cross heifer and steer realising 129.5p and 126p respectively. Best of the dairy bred beef to Ben Bayne’s Belgian Blue-x heavyweight 121.5p and John Ayre’s Limousin-x heifer 119.5p. Holstein Friesian steers to 106.5p. Cattle looking shorter for next week. CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (31)
Flying along again - they get dearer - up another gear, four cows £1 per kilo plus. Peter Nye and Charles Diplock in the stratosphere with Limousin and Angus cross cows 109.5p, 103p (P Nye - also yielding top price per head of £857) and 107p and 106.5p (C Diplock). No real meat Friesian Holstein cows on offer, steakers to 86p, 82p, 81p, etc. Best of the natives - MK Hind’s Sussex/Angus 94p. Plain cows to graze all very dear - up to 84p per kilo, nothing less than 66p! Overage beef following the trend - excellent competition, excellent prices. Angus x Limousin heifer 116p, Lightweight Charolais cross 104.5p and Simmental cross steers 107p.
CALVES (37 ) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Good to see more calves on offer and another excellent selling trade, enjoyed by all. Ben Bayne’s reared Limousin cross £188 and Belgian Blue heifer £170. Younger sorts - Belgian Blue cross bull £132, £116 and heifers £95, £92. Angus cross bull £120, £105 and heifer £57. Reared Friesian Holstein £65 and young Holsteins £3 to £13.
