CATTLE (31) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
Mixed entry all still selling very well although marginally easier on the week. Geoff White’s Simmental cross steers top call per kilo and top price per head, i.e. 163p and £1,131.60. Gale Coles’ lightweight butchers heifers 162p, 159p and 153p, more needed, the best cattle 150p plus no problem just not enough of them.

CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (36)
Nearly all cull cows, very few first quality, many plainer overful sorts in the entry. New Wharf Farms’ heavyweight well fleshed Holsteins £929, Nigel Velvick’s heavyweight Simmental £875. Top five Holsteins 110p, 106.5p, 104.5p, 100p and 99p. Heavy steakers 85p to £1, plainer cows 70p - 83p price range. Just the one overage beefer a lightweight Aberdeen Angus heifer at 125p.

CALVES (41) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
A good show of young and reared calves with a good trade to match especially for the stronger reared stirks. Young milk calves, 3/5 weeks - Thakeham Farm’s Belgain Blue cross bull £245 and £215 and heifers £185. Ridgewood Farms’ Limousin cross heifer £165 and Angus cross bull £127. Older calves - Holstein bull, 10/12 weeks £140, Simmental cross steer, 16 weeks £270, Hereford cross 16 weeks £265. Older stirk calves - Angus cross heifer £197 and Hereford cross heifer £180.

PIGS (17)
A colourful entry of Oxford sandy and blacks porker weight pigs, sound competition for all - gilts to 105p per kilo and £63 per head and entires to 80p per kilo.

HOGGETS (412) Overall average 166.25p per kg.
Up up and away the prices lifted off at Hailsham today but be warned there is between £20 and £30 price difference between finished sheep and undermeated sheep. With returns at this level it is essential that meated sheep are sold in the finished section please. Its surely makes sense to get it right. We are here to help you.
