Mixed entry of suckler bred and dairy bred beef, firmer trade on the week.
Lightweight Limousin cross heifer from Derek Southouse leading the returns at 164p and pleased to see Paul Collinson’s purebred South Devon steers out in front at 161p. Cattle have been in the yards for a long time and some coming plenty good enough.

Better entry all rewarded with another excellent trade. Mr Lloyd Campion’s Blonde cross cow best of the day at 127p, Limousins to 122p, all beef cross virtually £1 or more. Tremendous demand for cows to graze, Continental cross 110p to 126p. No meat dairy stock forward, lean steaking Holsteins 103p, plain cows 89.5p, very plain 72p, all a flyer. Overage beef under 48 months very keen - Limousin cross heifers 153p and 145p, thick Angus cross heifer 125p.

CALVES (40)

Good entry and a good trade to match. Reared Angus cross bulls from Plumpton College £330 and heifers £240, 16 weeks plus. Younger calves - Karova Farms’ Hereford x Friesian steers, 4/5 weeks £215 and heifers £175. Angus cross bulls, 3/4 weeks £172, £167 and £160, Simmental-x heifers £166 and Friesian bulls £63. Keep them coming - all ages wanted.

PIGS (12) -
All white entire pigs - weight range 57/75 kilos - price range 89/97p, better than expected. Norman Hicks’ bringing more next week - white gilts and boars, similar weights. We are receiving many enquiries for weaner pigs.

Against all expectations a rip roarer of a trade - prices in excess of £100 per head, predictably Friday Street Farmers and ‘Maestro’ Andreozzi sweep all before them.

FRED GROOMBRIDGE
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Fred Groombridge
who had been suffering from Leukemia.
His funeral is being held on Friday, 8th May at 2.45 pm
at Hastings Crematorium
