On fire, best trade for a long time. Ten cattle 140p plus, fourteen cattle 130p plus. Graham Beck’s lightweight Limousin cross butchers heifer 160p to Sean Hutchings. John and Mary Jones share the limelight with their heavyweight Limousin cross steer at 152p. Messrs. Beck and Jones have three steers over £1,000. Hereford x Friesian heifers to 135p, Sussex x Friesian heifers to 132p. Indeed a cracking trade for all breeds and classifications.

CULL COWS & OTM CATTLE (32)
Cull cows and overage beef continue at the recent high rates. Hailsham top five Friesian Holstein cows 100p, 99p, 98.5p, 98p and 97p. Plain Friesian cows 70/80p price range. Fat Sussex 103p twice, no first grade Continental cross on offer. Overage beef still very much wanted, Colin Broucke’s black and white crossbred steers to 116.5p per kilo and £920 per head. Friesian heifers with age 109p per kilo and £926 per head.

Seventy plus head on offer and a crowd of customers to sell to - a mix of reared and younger calves - a keen keen trade. Mrs MEH Pile & Son’s reared Belgian Blue cross steers £235. R Moseley’s Aberdeen Angus cross steers, 4 months plus £187 and heifers £142, JH & JHB Bayne’s Limousin-x heifer, 10/12 weeks £190, Thakeham Farms’ Blonde cross bull, 5 weeks £172 and Belgian Blue heifer £117, New Wharf Farms’ Simmental cross bulls, 5 weeks £195. Younger calves:- Limousin cross bulls £130 and heifers £105, Sussex cross bulls £95, Friesian Holstein bulls £5 - £20. Eight month old stirks:- Sussex cross steers £300, Angus cross heifers £237 and Friesian Holstein steers £171.

Dearest this week so far by comparison with other centres despite the fact we were painfully short of good meated hoggets. If you have properly finished hoggets, Hailsham is the place to sell them. Wonderful to see West Sussex Premier retail butcher back in action at Hailsham.

Every ewe was battled from first to last. An unprecedented trade, certainly £10 per head dearer than anywhere else in the South of England - Awesome!! don’t miss this trade. EWES & LAMBS - About and about they do look good value - presumably because of the bad weather.
