COWS & OVERAGE BEEF (40) Auctioneer: Nick Young
Undoubtedly the highlight of the day the ‘new buyer’ properly setting things alight. In the wise words of John Miles “the cow is only the bi-product” but it surely must be the most profitable one of all and certainly so if you sell at Hailsham. Trade is on fire with SK Hutchings’ Limousin cow topping the lot at 119.5p, CJ Rea’s Angus 118p and RH Daltry’s Angus 116p. Best of the Friesians to 105.5p, 100p, 98.5p etc. RM & CG Scott’s ‘06 born Limousin steer 129p and beef under 36 months - Bulstrode Farms’ Blue heifer 116.5p, RH Daltry’s Angus heifer 114p and CJ Rea’s Angus heifer 110p.

CALVES (26) Auctioneer: David Blake
Not quite the depth to the trade as last week but strong demand nevertheless. Thakeham Farms’ Continental bull calves to £250 for their British Blue cross and £240 for their Blonde cross. Henden Manor Farms £225 for a Simmental cross and BG Ashby’s Sussex cross tops out at £175.

PIGS (--) Auctioneer: Roger Waters
No pigs forward - Entered for next week 4 Tamworth x Saddleback and 4 Tamworth weaners, 4/5 months old.

SHEEP (488) Auctioneer: Nick Young
HOGGETS (270) Overall average 164.7p per kiloThe appalling weather had an adverse affect on numbers. Nonetheless real meat hoggets kept their end up well, in particular Lloyd Barrett’s superb run (he certainly knows what he is doing). But be warned store sheep masquerading as the finished article are heavily discounted. With this potential level of return it is important to get it right - near enough is just not good enough !!
Leading prices per kg:- L Barrett 208.2p, 205.3p, 204.1p, 194.1p, 185.4p, D Miles 187.4p, EA Boyes & W New 186.5p, 177.1p, GE Jarvis 183.5p, 182.9p, GE Tobitt 181.8p, AR Lavender 180p, 177.9p, 174.7p, H Wyatt 176.1p, MK Wickens 174.2p
Leading prices per head:- L Barrett £89 (twice), £88.50 (twice), EA Boyes & W New £85, £80, AR Lavender £85, £80, GE Jarvis £84.50, NJC & P Clouting £84, D Miles £81.50, H Wyatt £81, GE Tobitt £80 (twice)
EWES (97)

Undoubtedly the best trade in the South East yet again. Hailsham is King of the ewe castle, we need very many more ewes please, demand is outstripping supply.
Best ewes making in excess of the £100 mark, well done to all.
H Hawkins & Co £109, Liverton Partners £108, £92, RD Thomas £105, F Grantham £97, RD Thomas £88, G Isden £80, Plumpton College £73, K Shields £72, £71, DS Clark £71, MK Wickens £70
STORE LAMBS (121)

Yet again a great job despite the complete absence of grass and fodder.
I Gasson £72.50, £64, I & L Hutchison £68.50, £50, K Shields £59.50 (twice), SMJ Baldock £59, Tutts Barn Farm £56, GE Tobitt £50.
