BLUE TONGUE COMPLICATIONS STILL WITH US & UNDER REVIEW DAILY

WEDNESDAY MARKET
Sheep & Calves under the hammer & Collection Centre for Cattle

THIS COMING MONDAY
350 STORE CATTLE plus SHEEP

PRIME CATTLE/OTM BEEF & CULL COWS
Blue Tongue control/protection zone divides and sets a jigsaw puzzle across Sussex helping nobody and DISRUPTING ABILITY TO TRADE. Hailsham well and truly in the control zone. Decision taken in short term to act as a collection centre for prime cattle, over thirty month beef and cull cows - thirty nine traded this week - we are reviewing this position daily and anxious to return to the rostrum and auction ring as soon as realistically possible. Keep in touch with your cattle requirements.

CALVES (42) Auctioneer: Roger Waters Sale commences 10.45 a.m
Calf numbers good with reared and young calves of Limousin and Angus breeding making up the majority of the entry. Ridgewood Farms reared Limousin bulls to £157 and heifers £130, Angus to £150 and heifers £90, and Simmental cross heifers £120. RJ Moseley’s Angus cross bull £140 and Hendon Manor Farms’ Angus cross bull £140 and heifers £48.

SHEEP (501) - Auctioneer: Roger Waters
LAMBS (198)Overall average 77.4p per kg.
Better than anticipated - no point in complaining - heartened by the spirited competition but at a soul destroying price level. Hailsham compares very well against other centres. Lamb returns for producers countrywide are a disaster - there is no alternative but to take the medicine - surely future returns must be better in the long term?
Leading prices per kg: J & S Harmer 85.3p, D Miles 83.1p, 81.8p, Ken Russell 82.8p, 80.9p, FG Coles 82.8p, 81.5p, R Gorringe 82.3p, 80.2p, A Ellett 80.7p, I Williams 79.5p. Leading prices per head: PR Nye £40.20, £39, FG Coles £40, £37, £36.50, Bentley Wild Fowl £39, £35.50, LM Morgan £35, Poland Bros £35, J Bonnaud £34.50, D Miles £34

EWES (191) A good show of cull and grazing ewes, all weights and sold at all prices - an excellent pen of Suffolk x Mule ewes from C Somerset rocket to £46 per head, others £31, £30, J Blaker’s best meaty Mules £33.50. Ewes to graze £19.60, £18.50, £17 etc.

STORES (110)
Interest in store lambs - better bred Suffolk cross from Poland Bros to £27, £25 and BK Sargent £25. Small Texel x Welsh lambs to £22.70.
